Standard of conduct

Parents are informed that at FHK-we will uphold our Standard of Conduct, and require all students to abide by them. We kindly request you to read /explain the following guidelines to each of your children and encourage them to abide by them. The school reserves the right to suspend, or expel students who consistently do not show effort in abiding by the standard of conduct. The school also reserves the right to not graduate the student to the next grade-if there is no consistent effort on the part of the child to improve on academic performance. (The administration will be sensitive about special cases that are medically proven or assessed-a written report from a certified doctor/psychologist/or special needs specialist will be required)

Discipline
All pupils will be expected to be well-mannered, tolerant, honest, and respectful to others, as well as other people’s property.
The following behavior will not be tolerated at the school or school shuttles

  • Bullying, beating other children & fighting-causing injury/threats to others
  • Playing inappropriate daring games
  • Cheating, chewing of gum
  • Using abusive language; disrespecting authority, cursing.
  • Inappropriate conduct(engaging or introducing other students to immoral literature, behavior or talk)
  • Inappropriate physical contact between boys &girls (e.g. kissing)
  • Initiating negative attitude regarding the school/or the things of God such as devotional times or prayer
  • Distraction of school property
  • Introducing immoral forms of entertainment to others (e.g. singing forms of music by artists associated with indecent language/dances/behavior)

The following passages will be a good source of reference.
Bad company: 1Corinthians 15:33; Psalm 1:1 (we are told to avoid the company of those who have made wickedness habitual-a way of life, or those who mock God, and the things of God)
Foul language: Ephesians 4: 29; Colossians 3:8- Christians are told to not use foul/filthy language, but only what is helpful to others. Romans 1:29-31 says that those who choose to do this have chosen to rebel against God- they in turn enjoy the company of those who rebel, and sit and plan to do evil with others rather than do good.

Academics
All pupils will be required to take keen interest in their school work, homework assignments and overall grades. We will require all students to make a determined effort to improve in areas that any teacher points out to them. Improvement is expected to be seen in all areas-handwriting, presentation of work, completion of work, and overall grades.
Scripture says concerning our attitude towards work:
Working for the Lord at all times (Colossians 3:23)
Concerning laziness: the one who is lazy does not achieve much in life-Proverbs 6:10-11;
Concerning messy work: Proverbs 24:30-31 the field of a lazy man is messy, sloppy, uncared for- we therefore must make sure that our work does not reflect laziness.

Uniform and Appearance
All students will be required to dress in full school uniform. Students are to wear the appropriate uniform at all times. Braids must be held back; no wearing jewelry and nail polish.

Discipline procedures
Class teachers will communicate to the parent using the school diary, when there is a case of concern. This notice will be sent home twice if the problem is consistent. The parents are requested to respond to the teacher- noting that they have read the notice, and are addressing the issues at home. Parents are advised to call the class teachers for any clarification. If the problem persists- the school administration will then address the parents concerned.

Plea to parents

We humbly request parents to enforce discipline in their children at home even as we do our part at school. Many of the bad behaviors children carry to school are learnt at home or from the neighborhood community in which they live; charity begins at home. Children, who are not guided or disciplined at home, become a great challenge and negative influence on other children and the school at large. We encourage parents to monitor the TV programs children watch and the music they listen to.

FHK as a Christian based institution emphasizes discipline as a way of life for all our staff and students.

Let us work together to lay an excellent foundation for the future of our children.
